G
LENGTH: 3-6 days
DAY 1- ~5
This is by far, very obviously the easiest phase to recognise, but why does it happen and what is "the period"?
A sudden drop in all the hormones that were raging high in the late Luteal Phase, in particular - progesterone, is the signal that there was not successful implantation (of a fertilised egg in the uterus).
The drop in progesterone leads to the cascading drop in all hormones and the break down and release of the endometrial lining begins (since it is no longer needed). The blood vessels in the uterine wall constrict and the uterine wall itself begins contracting. These help further breakdown and release of the wall from the uterus, with the help of menstrual blood to see it out.
Whilst shedding the 'old', there is simultaneous repair and regrowth of the uterine lining, so when the bleed / 'period' finishes, there is already a thin layer of endometrial cells to begin the new cycle.
Reflective & internal, potentially sensitive and emotional
A little bit floaty and woo-woo, like light-headed, drifty
More internally connected - seemingly disconnected to the outside world
Like you might prefer spending time alone, hibernating, inward energy, day-dreaming
Possibly low energy (as oestrogen is low initially)
Low pain tolerance - skin, muscles, boobs, lower back pain and/or pelvic cramps - are sensitive
General loosening around pelvic area to aid bleed - loose bowels, stomach pain / GI irritability, nausea, gas
Cooler - BBT drops (a few days before, or on Day 1)
Intuition
Self-connection
Deep inward focus
Reviewing / analyzing the past to create directional improved future strategies
Generally good immunity due to low levels of interfering hormones
